New Year Update: Snow, Trails & What’s Ahead

Happy New Year Arrowhead Nordic Community!

We’re excited to welcome both the New Year and our new members! Light flurries are finally in the air (thank you to our dancers!) and while the forecast is only calling for 3–5 inches over the next few days, we’re grateful for every bit of snow. With a little luck, we hope to complete another grooming session on Saturday.

Our team completed a snowmobile groom on Tuesday (12/30). NOTE: overall conditions remain very thin. The best skiing is currently in the Giggle Woods near the Lodge, however, coverage is still insufficient for setting classic tracks. Expect icy patches, as well as exposed rocks, twigs, dirt and sagebrush in the meadows. We strongly recommend using older touring skis or snowshoes at this time.

Trail markers are partially installed; additional signage and poles will need to wait until we receive more snow. Our new Blue Mountain Trails (east of the Lodge and Alpine Road) remain closed until we receive a minimum of 8-10 inches of snow. These trails are newly built and must be fully covered, safe, skiable, and properly marked before opening.

Please note that our new trailhead is located on the south side of the Lodge, near the Little Blue Tavern entrance. Look for the buck-and-rail ski racks and the large blue Arrowhead Nordic sign. Daily trail fee is $20; dogs are welcome on the west side trails (AML side). Doggy bags are available at the trailhead and we kindly ask that all pet owners clean up after their dogs.

Arrowhead Nordic relies entirely on voluntary contributions, daily trail fees, donations and grants to fund grooming, fuel, materials and maintenance operations. If you have questions, suggestions or would like to volunteer, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we love hearing from our community.

Happy New Year!
